Instructional Methods

  • Classroom Meeting: A classroom meeting course is a course that meets face to face in a brick-and-mortar classroom setting.
  • Hybrid: A hybrid course is one that meets, or is based, partially in a brick-and-mortar classroom and partially online—reducing the amount of brick-and-mortar classroom time.
  • Online (Web): The Online (Web) course is one that meets, or is based, exclusively online where students access instructions, instructor’s office hours, all course materials (lectures, assignments, resources, etc.), and communicate via email and discussions with the instructor and other students.
  • Polya Course: A Polya course, offered through the Polya Math Center, provides different learning activities to meet different learning styles. Including any one, or all of the following: live lectures, online lectures, focus groups, computer homework/tutorials, coaches’ corner, and individual help from staff.
  • Video: The Video/DVD instruction method is primarily used for Engineering Outreach courses.
  • Videoconferencing: Videoconferencing is a set of interactive telecommunication technologies that allow two or more locations to interact via two-way video and audio transmission simultaneously.
  • Virtual Meeting: A virtual meeting course is one that requires students to meet synchronously (with fixed meeting times) in a virtual classroom via synchronous software. (e.g. Zoom)
