Course description: This course examines the role of music in society, focusing on the cultural history of specific cities each spring. Students discuss musical concepts such as form, texture, rhythm melody, timbre, style and genre. They experience great music firsthand by attending Auditorium Chamber Music Series concerts and Metropolitan Opera simulcast. They explore whether music is a “universal” art and how it contributes to identity. |
