About Us

Mission

Develop and sustain partnerships and programs that enhance healthcare access and delivery in Idaho’s ten northernmost counties, with a focus on primary and preventative care for rural and underserved populations.

Vision

North Idaho AHEC leads innovative programs that connect students to health careers, health professionals to rural and/or underserved communities, and these communities to better health.

Values

  • Collaborative partnerships among academic institutions, regional health workforce, and the community
  • Innovative programs and services that are interprofessional and community-centered
  • Data that informs and influences decisions
  • A skilled health workforce that mirrors the diversity of the region

Our Objectives

Established in 2018, the North Idaho AHEC is focusing on three objectives.

  • Help communities grow their own health professionals. This includes collaborating with the WWAMI Medical Education Program at the University of Idaho, regional high schools, and community-based organizations to cultivate student interest in health careers through exciting pipeline activities.
  • Help communities get the healthcare professionals they need to meet demands. This includes exposing healthcare students to rural and underserved clinical settings and interprofessional training opportunities through initiatives such as the AHEC Scholars Program and Rural Underserved Opportunities Program (RUOP).
  • Help communities keep the healthcare professionals they have. This includes leading innovative continuing education programs, fostering collaboration between community and academic partners and connecting professionals to share expertise and resources.

Service Area

The North Idaho AHEC serves 10 counties: Boundary, Bonner, Kootenai, Benewah, Shoshone, Latah, Clearwater, Nez Perce, Lewis and Idaho. Our boundaries align with Idaho Public Health Districts 1 (Panhandle) and 2 (North Central).
