Intensive English

The University of Idaho American Language and Culture Program (ALCP) is an intensive English language program.

The ALCP offers 21 hours per week of instruction. Students may begin an eight-week course of study in January, March, August or October or a six-week program in June.

Step 1: Application

  • Submit Original Bank Statement or Financial Guarantee
  • Funds must cover all tuition and living expenses expressed in CFR

Step 4: Passport

  • Copy picture and information pages from Passport
  • Submit copy of passport

Step 5: I-20

  • After receiving all documents, ALCP will FedEx the I-20

ALCP students should bring enough money to cover the cost of tuition and fees, health insurance, housing expenses, books and enough cash to cover incidental expenditures. We recommend that students bring money in traveler's checks rather than cash. Students should carry all documentation of financial support for immigration purposes, as well as for registration with the ALCP.

Costs Per Session

(Eight-week prices are estimates and are subject to change without notice):

  • ALCP Tuition: $2,600
  • Registration/Program Fees: $75
  • Orientation/Program Fees: $100
  • Housing (Room and Board): $1,926
  • Books and Supplies: $275
  • Personal Expenses (Estimated): $409
  • Required Insurance: $550 (We will accept alternative insurance plans if they meet the University of Idaho's minimum requirements.)
  • Total Estimated Cost: $5,935

New Student Orientation is required of all new students. This two-day orientation is an opportunity for new students to learn about ALCP policies and procedures, set up their University of Idaho email (called VandalMail), get a student identification card, and learn more about how to stay in F-1 student visa status. Students also take a placement exam to assess their English proficiency. This exam determines the level a student will be placed in. Make sure to arrive 1-3 days early so your mind is fresh and ready to meet students, staff and teachers!
