Chapter Service Projects
Alumni chapters from across the country are uniting in service this fall by planning a community service event or project on Saturday, October 26, national Make a Difference Day, or any other agreeable date in October. This organized, collaborative effort brings Vandals together to serve others in their communities while demonstrating the reach and power of the Vandal network.

Live or work in Canyon County? Food banks across the country rely on the donations they receive from food drives to help keep their shelves stocked. Help us stock the area food bank by dropping off canned foods at the above locations. On Thursday, October 24, please join other area alumni at the Oasis Food Bank (506 W. Simplot Blvd, Caldwell) from 3:45-6 p.m and wear your Vandal gear!

The Latinx Chapter is teaming up with TRIO by participating in TRIO's Fall New Student Orientation on October 12th. We would love to have you join us for the whole day or any of the scheduled activities and engage with our rising TRIO scholars. 2-3:30 p.m.: Camp Rhino College Obstacle Course and Time Management Study Skills
4-6 p.m.: Linder Farms Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch – Navigating the College Maze
6 p.m.: Dinner distributed on bus – return to schools

Project: We will be collecting donations to comfort and entertain children during their stay at the Children's Hospital in Aurora. We are looking for items such as art supplies, toys or clothes. In October, a group of alumni will drop off all of donated items at the hospital. Please contact Carmen if you are interested in joining the drop off team.

For Vandals Make a Difference Day this year we will be participating a food drive for the Seattle Humane Society's Pet Food Bank. Seattle Humane's Pet Food Bank collects and distributes pet food donations for pets belonging to low-income families or pet owners experiencing hardship. The Pet Food Bank keeps people and pets together and ensures that community members who love their animal companions don't have to choose between feeding their pets and feeding themselves.
Please show your support by bringing a pet food item with you to the homecoming watch party on Oct. 19! Time: 2-5:30 p.m.

Mission: Safety, Healing and Freedom from Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault
For more than 30 years, the Women’s & Children’s Alliance (WCA) has been at the forefront of providing services to women, men and their children healing from domestic abuse and sexual assault. Since its founding, the WCA’s crisis program has evolved into one of the most vital and unduplicated programs in our community. The WCA is proud to be a community leader in providing these critically needed services. Established as a YWCA more than 100 years ago, we’ve been an important community partner and providing safe spaces for women has always been at the core of our mission. In the last seven fiscal years, the WCA has provided 71,065 safe bed nights for women and children, 19,165 counseling sessions and answered 19,165 calls to our 24-hour domestic violence and sexual assault hotlines. We rely on the support of our community, both financially and the incredible work of volunteers to do what we do.

The University of Idaho Boise Center’s Culture and Climate Committee will be collecting school supply donations for Treasure Valley teachers and their classrooms in the month of November. As the school year progresses, classroom supplies dwindle, become lost, broken or used up. Cold and flu season is just around the corner and supplies like Kleenex and hand sanitizer are not provided by the school district to classrooms. Every year, school teachers dip into their own wallets to buy necessary school supplies for their classrooms. They buy everything from extra composition notebooks, pencils, dollar store items for fun science projects to keep kids engaged, sticky notes and binders, to snacks for lower income students hungry between classes. Please help us support our local teachers and donate school supplies for their classrooms. Helping our teachers focus on the best level of education for our children can be as easy as a quick trip to the grocery store.

U of I Boise’s Culture & Climate Committee is committed to setting, maintaining and supporting a positive working environment for our Vandal employees. One way we keep morale boosted is through community engagement. The UIB’s Culture & Climate Committee keeps employees connected to students, alumni, and community members through donations drives that benefit education and local nonprofits (Idaho Humane Society’s holiday pet supply drive, Women & Children’s Alliance Christmas toy donations); by promoting professional and personal learning opportunities; by partnering with environmentally friendly organizations such as May in Motion, and by working to get that strong, positive Vandal spirit out into the Treasure Valley through community service projects (Boise Kind Day, Boise Bike project’s repair-a-bike day for kids, etc.). Whether it’s weeding a community garden, gathering donations for those in need, or encouraging workplace healthy habits through lunchtime Tai-Chi classes, U of I Boise’s CCC is dedicated to spreading Vandal spirit and cheer. Team Idaho Vandals volunteers will help rake and winterize senior and disabled neighbors. Please bring your own gloves and rakes.
*The time commitment is about 2-3 hours depending upon the number of volunteers and the number of yards assigned.
