Acting CEO, Larry Stauffer, Ph.D.
Larry Stauffer comes to University of Idaho Coeur d’Alene with over 30 years experience in the Vandal family. He is the former dean of the U of I College of Engineering and is a mechanical engineering professor. He was instrumental in establishing the collaborative computer science program with North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene and bringing the first cybersecurity bachelor’s degree to Idaho.
Stauffer joined U of I in 1987. After earning tenure in mechanical engineering, he served as the director of the College of Engineering in Boise for 15 years before returning to the Moscow campus in 2009. He served as dean of engineering until summer 2021.
Stauffer earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and his doctorate from Oregon State University. He is a licensed professional engineer in Idaho and worked in private industry prior to his academic career.
In between the business of meeting with alumni, industry partners, faculty, students and staff, Stauffer enjoys the outdoors. He is an avid skier and hunter.
