Dane S. Claussen, Ph.D., is the Editor-in-Chief & Executive Director (CEO) of Nonprofit Sector News. He also has been Editor of Newspaper Research Journal (Nov. 2017-Sept. 2021) and Journalism & Mass Communication Educator (March 2006-Sept. 2012), both international scholarly journals published quarterly by the Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication’s (AEJMC) and SAGE Publications.
Claussen was publisher and/or editor of daily, weekly, biweekly, and monthly newspapers and magazines in Washington, Oregon, and Wisconsin. He taught media management, media law, media ethics, media history, social science research methods, communication theory, public opinion, and media literacy courses, and the gamut of reporting/writing and editing courses, as a professor at Missouri State University, Point Park University, Shanghai International Studies University (China), and Thiel College. In both 2017 and 2021, he was one of two official nominees for AEJMC Vice-President, the position that automatically leads to President-Elect and then President.
He is a former Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada, and has been extensively involved with nonprofits for journalism, higher education, historic preservation, and philately. (He is a Hall of Fame inductee and former president of the American Philatelic Society Writers Unit.)
