Vinnie Cutro

During the past 40 years, Vinnie Cutro has performed with noted jazz greats such as Horace Silver, Buddy Rich and Lionel Hampton. He has traveled extensively throughout the world, appearing at jazz festivals and concerts in Europe, Japan, Africa, Canada, South America and the U.S. As a member of the Lionel Hampton Quintet, he performed guest appearances with various symphonic orchestras in the U.S. such as the Colombus Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the Omaha Symphony. As a freelance musician, he has had the opportunity to work with artists such as Aretha Franklin, The Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Mike Stern, Billy Hart, Jerry Bergonzi, Bob Mintzer, Ray Charles, Blood Sweat And Tears, Jim McNeely, Mike Richmond, Jay Anderson, Arturo O'Farrel Orchestra, The Mel Lewis Orchestra, Jimmy McGriff, Machito Orchestra, Xavier Cugot Orchestra, Mel Torme, Bernard Perde, Barry Manilow, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Al Kooper, Donald Fagen, Diane Moser's - Jazz Composers Orchestra, The Spirit Of Life Ensemble, Mike Treni - Jazz Composers' Workshop Orchestra, Mark Egan and Mike Longo Orchestra.

Vinnie Cutro, born in New Jersey in 1953, received his formal musical training throughout the years and continued his education at New Jersey University where he received his B.A in Music Education. Then his working education began as a freelance musician in the New York Area. He later continued his education at New York University, where he received his Masters in Jazz Performance. There he furthered his studies in jazz composition, classical studies, jazz arranging and counterpoint with Dr. Tom Boras and Jim McNeely. The festival appearances include locations such as Pori Jazz Festival (Finland), North Sea Festival (Holland), Capital Jazz Festival (England), Weisen Jazz Festival (Austria), La Grande Parade du Jazz (France), Perugia Jazz Festival (Italy), Lugano Jazz Festival (Italy), Skepsholmen Festival (Sweden), Lugano Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Cascais (Portugal), Tabarka Jazz Festival (Tunisia), Playboy Jazz Festival (U.S.), Kool Jazz Festival (U.S.), Newport Jazz Festival (U.S.), Chicago Jazz Festival (U.S.), The White House (U.S) and The United States Embassy (Brazil).

As a member of the Lionel Hampton Quartet, he performed guest appearances with various symphonic orchestras in the U.S., such as the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the Omaha Symphony. Vinnie Cutro's current CD release featuring Mitch Schechter is entitled The Music Of Duke Ellington & Billy Strayhorn, available at His first CD release as a leader (Blues for the Optimist; West Side Records 1995) featured jazz artists such as Bob Mintzer, Jim McNeely, Victor Jones and Mike Richmond. This CD contains seven original compositions by the leader plus two new arrangements of John Coltrane's Giant Steps and Naima (available at His second CD release featuring Mike Stern (guitar), Bob Farrel (trombone), Martin Wind (bass), Sarah Jane Cion (piano), Victor Jones (drums) and Mitch Schechter (piano), is called "ABBERATION," available at Vinnie Cutro is currently performing in the New York area with his new ensemble, which is called VINNIE CUTRO & NEW YORK CITY SOUNDSCAPE.
