U of I Faculty Awarded Seed Grant Funding for 19 Projects

Nineteen faculty members at the University of Idaho were awarded funding for FY2019 through the university’s Seed Grant program. Sponsored by the Office of Research and Economic Development, the Seed Grant program helps early career faculty establish a scholarly program. The program aims to promote research, outreach and creative activities that will improve individual faculty competitiveness for external funding and/or will result in publications, patents, recognition, awards or exhibitions/performances. Seed Grant awards ranged from $8,200 to $12,000. Read more

2018-19 Kurt Olsson Early Career Research Fellowships Awarded

The College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences is proud to announce that Shawn Copeland from the Lionel Hampton School of Music and Clarissa Richardson from the Department of Psychology and Communication Studies were awarded the Kurt O. Olsson Early Career Research Fellowship. This program aims to help recently hired faculty develop scholarly/creative programs that promote research and creative activities in the humanities, arts, and social sciences that will attract outside funding, and/or that will result in publications, patents or exhibitions/performances. Copeland will use the funds for his new recording titled "The Collected Works for Clarinet of Carlos Velez" and Richardson will work on her project titled, "Influence of Social Support Usage During Daily Stress on Psychological and Physiological Functioning of Older Adults." U of I’s Opera Workshop Presents Bizet’s Classic “Carmen”

Bizet’s “Carmen” – one of the most popular classical operas of all time – comes to the University of Idaho at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, and Saturday, April 7, in the Administration Building Auditorium. “Carmen” is presented by the U of I’s Opera Workshop, a student ensemble in the Lionel Hampton School of Music that performs fully staged operas and/or scenes from operas, operettas and musical theater shows each semester. School of Music Faculty Perform at NASA Conference

Three music faculty from the Lionel Hampton School of Music in the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences performed at the 2018 North American Saxophone Alliance Conference. Vanessa Sielert, director of the School of Music, was selected to perform two new works for saxophone and piano, including "Bridges, Breaks and Bells" by alumnus Dylan Champagne '17 and "Heartfelt and Diabolical" by Greg Yasinitsky of Washington State University. Javier Rodriguez, assistant professor of bassoon, participated as half of the "Post-Haste Reed Duo" and Patrick Jones, full-time lecturer of saxophone, performed two pieces by Miguel del Aguila.
