Chosen with the student’s preferences in mind, every Hamp's Camper will participate in two different large ensembles, one chamber ensemble, and the Hamp’s Camp Ensemble. Each of these ensembles will be coached by our faculty and staff members. These ensembles can be from multiple concentrations — for example, a student could choose to perform in concert band, jazz ensemble, and an a cappella group — and our schedule is setup to accommodate a student with a variety of interests. If a pre-formed chamber ensemble plans to attend, please inquire to the camp email about receiving a discount on camp tuition.
The jazz program at the Lionel Hampton Music Camp offers instrumentalists and vocalists a chance to rehearse and perform with their peers and distinguished jazz faculty at the Lionel Hampton School of Music. Students will prepare a variety of music, learn about and develop their improvisation skills, and give a performance at the end of the week.
Jazz faculty at the University of Idaho will be leading the jazz ensembles and coaching small groups. This faculty includes Vern Sielert, Vanessa Sielert, Kate Skinner, Alan Gemberling, Dan Bukvich and Spencer Martin.
