Cello Instructor - Preparatory Division
Amy Browse began her musical training at age three when her father started giving her piano lessons. At the age of five, she began playing the cello and played it throughout her youth, including as a soloist with the Tacoma Youth Symphony. She studied with Oliver Edel at Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan, and holds a Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from Northwestern University in Chicago, where she studied with Dudley Powers. After graduating from college, her love of medicine and animals led her to veterinary school at WSU, and she has practiced as a small animal veterinarian part-time for 25 years. She has continued to play her cello throughout that time, and has been a member of the Washington Idaho Symphony for many years. She performs with We B Cellos, a cello quartet based in Spokane, and locally with the Harmonia String Trio.
Amy is a registered Suzuki cello teacher, and studied with teacher-trainer Pamela Devenport. She has been a cello instructor at Holy Names Music Center in Spokane, and is excited to continue her Suzuki teaching in the Preparatory Division program. She is a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and the Suzuki Association of Washington State. She loves teaching the cello to students of all ages, and feels privileged to be a part of each student’s growth, both as a musician and as a person.
