Ruth Marshall
Cello Instructor - Preparatory Division
Cellist Ruth Marshall enjoys a varied freelance career as a chamber musician, orchestral musician, soloist, and educator. She is the cellist of the Mill City String Quartet, which is currently in residence with Minnesota Public Radio, and Artu Duo which is currently in residence at the Apollo Music Festival.
Since 2019, she has been principal cello of the Rochester Symphony Orchestra, and was the principal cello of Illinois Symphony Orchestra from 2013 to 2020. She is currently on the faculty of Hamline University, and the Saint Paul Conservatory of Music, and has been on the faculties of DePaul University, Illinois State University, and Eastern Illinois University. She holds undergraduate degrees from the University of Washington in Comparative History of Ideas and Music Theory, and graduate degrees in cello performance from DePaul University.
