Theatre Alumna, Doula and Director

You loved 8-bit Joe Vandal during April's Vandal Giving Day, and so did the judges! Congratulations to Vandal Giving Day planning team, led by alumnus Eric Billings and featuring several CLASS alumni, on receiving a Best of CASE VIII Silver Award for Giving Days/Fundraising Events.

Heidy Caruso Joins Oliver Russell

Heidy Caruso has joined Oliver Russell as an account manager. She began her career in TV at KTVB before transitioning to the agency side at Drake Cooper where she was a content producer and project manager. Most recently, she was the client services manager at MarkMonitor where she helped clients safeguard their intellectual property and reputation from online risk. Caruso holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Idaho.

CLASS Alumnus Reaches 50 Years of Giving

Julius “Pete” Peterson, a 1962 political science alumnus, is among the first group of donors to reach 50 years of cumulative giving to the University of Idaho. His donations grew from annual gifts of less than $100 to gifts that established endowed scholarships for students in the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences and College of Education, Health and Human Sciences. Anthropology Alumnus Named to U.S. Court of Appeals 

The Honorable Danielle Hunsaker (a 2001 anthropology and 2004 law graduate) was confirmed to a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. Read the full story.

JAMM Alumna Releases Second Children's Book

Lisa Bell, WKMG-TV News 6 anchor and CLASS alumna, released her second children's book "Norman the Gnome has Colorful Friends." The book centers around Norman the Gnome again and introduces the wonders of gardening and friendship through Norman's colorful friends. Read more about the book.

Reporter Joins The Challis Messenger Staff

Hunter Diehl '19 joined the staff of The Challis Messenger in September as a reporter. Diehl graduated in May from the University of Idaho with degrees in history and journalism and a minor in sociology. He graduated with honors from Highland High School in Pocatello. Read more.

CLASS Grad Joel Thomas Begins as New Orleans Saints Assistant Coach

When Joel Thomas left the University of Idaho in 1998, he left with his degree in public communications and as the Vandal Football team's leader in all-time rushing yards. After several coaching gigs, Thomas starts the 2019 NFL season with a new role as an assistant coach with the New Orleans Saints. Read more.

Century Construction Group welcomes Gary Roberson

Century Construction Group welcomes Gary Roberson as the new director of safety and quality control. Roberson has more than 30 years of experience in safety and management roles including heavy construction, equipment and vessel management positions. Roberson is a graduate of the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and environmental science, graduating magna cum laude in both degrees. In addition to Roberson’s impressive work history, he has also been active in the military working as a Combat Field Medic, Tactical Munitions Specialist and Army Reserve National Guard Intelligence Reconnaissance Specialist.

Uribe Starts as Vice Principal at McLoughlin High School

Mario Uribe (2006, criminology) began the next step of his career on Sept. 3 as vice principal of McLoughlin High School in the Milton-Freewater Unified School District. According to the superintendent, Uribe is the district's first Latino administrator in anyone's recent memory. Read more.

Amaia Stecker Named Event Planner of the Year

Amaia Pilar Stecker (2004, political science and Spanish) was named a 2019 Planner of the Year from Smart Meetings Magazine. Stecker started in politics and shifted to coordinating transportation for a three-course, plated dinner for 800 people from Washington state to Washington, D.C., overnight via Alaska Airlines. The following year, she planned the entire event, from fundraising to finish. That set her course in the industry. Read more.

Healthwise Announces Christy Calhoun as Chief Content Solutions Officer

Healthwise, a leader in evidence-based health education, technology, and services, announced today that Christy Calhoun ('92 international studies and Spanish), has been named chief content solutions officer of Healthwise, a new executive role within the company. Calhoun had previously served as senior vice president of consumer health experience.

Jason Risch, partner in the law firm of Risch Pisca, PLLC, was appointed to the board of directors of AVANA BIDCO Inc., which specializes in small business financing and management. Risch earned his B.S. in political science in 1999 and received his J.D. from the University of Idaho in 2002. Read more.

Katherine Johnson Promoted at Stoltz Marketing Group

Public relations alumna Katherine Johnson '06 was promoted to director of brand strategy at Stoltz Marketing Group in Boise. Johnson joined Stoltz in August 2017. She has experience in marketing and communication across a variety of industries including hospitality, entertainment and health care. She previously led marketing departments at the Treasure Valley Family YMCA and the Women’s and Children’s Alliance.

CLASS Alumnus to Join Idaho State Department of Education

Eric J. Studebaker ('02, philosophy) will join the State of Idaho's Department of Education in mid-July as the director of Student Engagement and Safety Coordination. Studebaker’s responsibilities will include advanced opportunities, GEAR-UP, student safety, student health and well being, youth suicide prevention, driver’s education and 21st Century Community Learning Centers. Alumna Participates in Seven Devils Playwrights Festival

U of I Department of Theatre Arts alumna Vinecia Coleman, (2016), is a participating playwright in the Seven Devils Playwrights Festival in McCall, Idaho, this month. Vinecia's play "Two Minutes After Dawn" receives a staged reading on Thursday, June 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Alpine Playhouse. All events, workshops, classes, etc., are FREE to the public, so if you enjoy theater and want to learn more about playwriting, get thee to McCall!
