Leona holds a BS in Zoology and a BS in Marine Biology from Humboldt State University, and both a M.S. in Wildlife Resources and a Ph.D. in Natural Resources from the University of Idaho. After stints with both the University of Idaho and the National Park Service, she began working for Idaho Department of Fish and Game as a spatial ecologist in 2006. She currently serves as the spatial ecologist and climate change liaison for the IDFG's Wildlife Diversity Program, focusing her 20+ years of experience in modeling species distributions, connectivity, and the impacts of landscape change and climate change on those species and habitats of greatest conservation need.
