Poster Session

Lightning Talks and Poster Session

The PNW-COSMOS Alliance invited conference attendees to submit an abstract for the Lightning talk and Poster Session at the 2019 AGEP National Research Meeting. The poster session was organized by Dr. Barbara Komlos at Montana State University.

The theme of the Poster Session was: Pathways and strategies for facilitating transitions of under-represented minorities in STEM from graduate studies to the professoriate

Suggested sub-themes were:

  • Evidence-based strategies to support bachelor-degree students transitioning to PhD programs
  • Scalable and/or transformational strategies and pathways for transitioning master-degree students to doctoral programs
  • Scalable and/or transformational strategies and pathways for transitioning doctoral students to the professoriate
  • Research into stigmatization (including effects on structure and belonging), institutional climate/culture; climate (psychological space ) of STEM departments; mitigating implicit bias/microaggressions
  • Research into faculty perceptions/attitudes and training of faculty to work with underrepresented minorities

The (lead) poster presenter was expected to give a 2-minute lightning talk on the focus of their poster. The purpose of the lightning talk was to provide a snapshot of the poster to attendees. The poster session began at the completion of the lighting talks, and attendees were able to ask questions of the presenters during the poster session and reception. Conference attendees were also asked to vote for their favorite lightning talk and poster presentations.

22 posters were presented at the 2019 AGEP Meeting, and a winner was chosen in each of the following categories: Most Creative, Most Engaging Lightning Talk, Most Inspiring/Commendable Poster.
