Clinics
The following dates and times apply to fall and spring semesters only.
Acquire the basic skills to start climbing safely on the wall. Covers equipment, knots, belaying, and basic movement. Basics clinics are held during fall and spring semesters in the SRC.

Climbing Clinics -
Wednesdays at 6 p.m. (except the first Wednesday of the month)
- Lead Climbing | Jan. 13 & 20, Feb. 23, and April 14 & 21
- Anchors/Knots | Jan. 27 and March 31
- Multi-Pitch Climbing | Feb. 17 and May 5
- Strength Training for Climbers | March 10
- Sport Climbing\Rappelling | Feb. 10 and April 28
Cost: Students - $8 (includes equipment) | All Others - $13 (includes equipment).
Women's Climb Night -
Clinics lead by Women, for Women (and anyone else who wants to learn)
First Wednesday of the month from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. (Feb. 3, March 3 and April 7)
- Rotating Topics
Cost: $5 for all (includes equipment)
No advanced sign up is necessary, just head to the Climbing Center for the topic that interests you. Please note space is limited.
Women's Climb Night -
Clinics and climbing for Women, by Women
Cost: $5 for all (includes equipment)
Dates: Feb. 3, March 3 and April 7
Time: 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Youth Programs
Fall 2020 Season - Season starts September 22
11 - 13 Years Old | Tuesdays 3:30 - 5 p.m.
14 - 17 Years Old | Thursdays and every other Friday 3:30 - 5 p.m.
Our Goals
- To offer after-school athletic options for kids and teens ages 11 - 17 focused on physical, emotional, and intellectual growth based on principles of climbing as a sport and as a movement philosophy.
- We will maintain 1:5 coach/student ratio to maintain quality personal coaching and skill refinement.
- Provide community growth opportunities and youth development by engaging youth through a constructive competitive environment focused around team mindset development.
- Have fun and climb Vandal strong!
Equipment Needs
- Face covering appropriate for physical activity (it stays on)
- UIAA approved climbing harness
- Belay Device/Tubular or Assisted Braking ( 14 years and older)
- Climbing shoes
- Personal waist chalk bag/chalk bucket and chalk sock or liquid chalk

Youth Open Climbing Rules & Fees
All participants must watch the U of I Climbing Center orientation video. Parents must also take and pass a onetime basics belay clinic or demonstrate skills proficiency. All participants must read and sign an assumption of risk and liability waiver (Climbing Center Release of Liability Form) at the Climbing Center. Youth 13 and under are not allowed to belay. Children 14 and older may belay if they complete the facility orientation and basics belay clinic while also accompanied by a parent or guardian who has also completed the training and orientation. Membership is non-refundable and non-transferable.
- Youth and Parent Package | $8 per person, includes Facility Orientation and equipment
- Youth 1 Month | $45, available to participants 18 years and younger.
- Youth 4 Month | $150, available to participants 18 years and younger.
- Youth 1 Year | $325, available to participants 18 years and younger.
Youth are defined as being under 18 years of age, all youth must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to enter and use the University of Idaho Climbing Center. Youth open climbing is available anytime during summer hours:
Monday through Friday | 3-8 p.m.
Saturday | 12-6 p.m.
Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian while using the Climbing Center. Children 13 years or younger are designated “Climber Only,” and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who has completed facility orientation. Children 14 and older may belay if they complete the facility orientation and basics belay clinic while also accompanied by a parent or guardian who has also completed the training and orientation.
Youth Open Climbing Rules & Fees
Participants must attend a (one-time) facility orientation and have a Climbing Center Release of Liability Form completed by parent or legal guardian.

Reserve the Climbing Center for your next special event. The minimum charge for an event is $80 (a ten participant minimum), and certain stipulations apply.
