Student can apply or be nominated for the following awards. Nominations and applications are due March 9, 2018.
Student Achievement Awards
Mary Ruth Mann, Roy L. Eiguren and Carl F. Wurster, along with other former ASUI presidents, established a perpetual endowment fund in 1996.
The award is given annually to at least one deserving student enrolled at U of I.
Nominees must be enrolled at the U of I for the academic year 2017-2018. The recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student who has shown an active involvement in Associated Students U of I or its programs.
Betsy Thomas served as director of the U of I Women’s Center from 1985 to 1997. Through her leadership, the Women’s Center was able to fight for and support permanent staff positions and opportunities for student workers, volunteers and interns.
This award is presented in the hope that the recipient's or recipients’ exceptional service may inspire and motivate others to become involved in gender advocacy work.
Applicants or nominees must be enrolled at U of I for the academic year 2017-2018. Criteria for the selection of a nominee to receive the Betsy Thomas Gender Equity Scholarship Award include, but are not limited to: exceptional motivation, innovation, involvement, and commitment to advancing gender equity issues through their academic studies, and/or via volunteerism and community service, without regard for personal gain, while exhibiting a deep and personal commitment to the causes, concerns, events and needs at hand.
Frank W. Childs IV was a U of I engineering student who died an untimely and tragic death. Childs was an outstanding student who was actively involved in student government.
ASUI created this award to honor graduating seniors who exhibit similar qualities.
Nominees/Applicants must be enrolled at the U of I for the academic year 2017-2018. Any graduating senior (May or summer of the award year) who has actively demonstrated a role in the ASUI is eligible. The recipient must be a full-time student who has shown active participation in ASUI. Activities within the ASUI for the past year will be considered.
George Dafoe's leadership, dedication and integrity came at a critical juncture in student government and campus history. His unique personal qualities and capabilities were used to serve student interests and inspired this award.
This award is available to all students involved with ASUI. The recipient must be a full-time, undergraduate student who has served in ASUI in any capacity.
This award is presented to an individual undergraduate student who has demonstrated exceptional motivation, innovation and involvement in community service. Students may earn this award more than once in their academic career provided the experiences illustrated in the second application are different from the first application. The service must be performed without pay and can take place in and outside the immediate area.
In 1899, Jeannie Eva Hughes became the first African-American to graduate from U of I. This award was named in her honor and will be given to a student who has shown genuine concern and interest toward multicultural issues and have worked on behalf of multiculturalism on campus.
First-year students who have demonstrated outstanding service, leadership, academic achievement and who are committed to serving the university community.
Sophomores who have demonstrated outstanding service, leadership, academic achievement and who are committed to serving the university community.
Applicants or nominees must have, at least, a 3.0 cumulative GPA for their undergraduate studies and have completed at least 25 credits by May 2018 to qualify for the award. This award is intended to acknowledge students who are in their second year at the University of Idaho.
Started in 1923 to recognize the outstanding male leaders on campus, this award has evolved to recognize women and men who have demonstrated leadership experience.
Applicants or nominees must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA for their undergraduate studies and have completed at least 89 credits by May 2018 to qualify for the award. This award is intended to recognize students in their third year of study at U of I. Transfer students with junior standing are also eligible.
This award is presented to 10 seniors who have demonstrated outstanding service, leadership, academic achievement and commitment to serving the university community.
Former U of I president Richard Gibb earned the reputation of being exceptionally student-centered. In particular, Gibb was very supportive of the efforts of non-traditional students.
This honor is presented as a capstone award to students who have entered post-secondary education in a nontraditional fashion (i.e. not directly from high school) and have overcome a variety of obstacles while providing service and leadership to the campus community throughout their career.
The intent of this award is to acknowledge a nontraditional graduating senior who has made a significant difference while attending U of I. Students may apply themselves, or be nominated by a member. of faculty or staff, or another student. The award comes with a $250 scholarship.
The Outstanding Student-Employee of the Year is a recognition program created for high performing student-employees working for U of I. Once per year, direct supervisors from various departments at the Moscow campus and regional centers can nominate current student-employees to be recipients of the award. The Student-Employee of the Year will be recognized at the Student Achievement Awards at the end of each spring semester.
To be eligible, students must have a 3.00 (undergraduate) and 3.50 (graduate) cumulative GPA, be currently enrolled at U of I and have been employed for at least three months to be considered for the award*. Eligible student-employees must also be currently employed and drawing U of I paychecks. No outside organizations are eligible for participation.
