The Women’s Center offers a wide variety of events to help inform, educate, inspire and empower around women’s and gender-related issues. This year’s events will follow social distancing guidelines. Due to the everchanging circumstances of COVID-19, a cancellation of an event is possible. In the event this occurs, we will be providing immediate notification on our What’s Up Weekly newsletter and social media accounts. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay engaged!

  • FEMFest – Aug. 28
    A dynamic celebration of Women’s Equality Day with an outdoor feminist fair featuring free snacks, lots of feminist swag and great prizes.
  • Get the Scoop! Open House – Sept. 2
    Grab a free ice cream sundae and come check out the Women's Center to find out about our programs, services, space, and opportunities to get involved! Meet our staff, ask questions, or just take a look around.
  • Take Back the Night – Sept. 17
    Rally and march to take a visible and active stand to break the silence and reclaim the night in protest of all forms of violence and assault.
  • F-Word Live Poetry Slam – Nov. 5
    Join us for a poetry slam exploring “the other F-word,” namely Feminism. This event is open to poets of all levels and experience.
  • LUNAFEST Women's Film Festival – March 2
    A national film festival that showcases original short films by, for and about women.
  • International Women's Day – March 8
    A global day celebrating the economic, political, and social achievements of women.
  • The Bandana Project – March 25
    Raising awareness of workplace violence experienced by farmworker women in the fields.
  • Voces del CAMPo – March 30
    Featuring personal stories from students with migrant and seasonal farm work experience.
  • Virginia Wolf Distinguished Service Awards – October 15 & March 24
    Each year, members of the campus and local community are recognized for their continuous dedication to activism for gender justice.
  • SAAM Slam – April 6
    The U of I Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) poetry slam is an event that highlights voices in the Vandal Community to raise awareness of sexual violence. This event is open to poets of all levels and experience.
