As a native southern Californian, James May arrived at the University of Idaho with a clinically focused professional background. Experiences captured from high school and collegiate clinical settings combined with regional and national professional involvement provided his foundation for athletic training and clinical investigation and education. While working as the Director of Athletic Training Services for a total of 14 years at two private NCAA Division III institutions, he deepened his ongoing passion for working with student-athlete patients and athletic training students. Having the opportunity to treat patients while working with athletic training students has always been enjoyable, challenging, and rewarding for him. His scholarship interests include action research in athletic training within the area of clinical interventions. Working with both the professional level masters (MSAT) and post-professional doctor of athletic training (DAT) programs, May is excited to join the Athletic Training Program family at the University of Idaho. As an active family, he and his wife, Shannon, and their two boys, enjoy spending time together and pursing Idaho’s many outdoor activities.
