Humanitarian Engineering Corps
HEC is a student-run U of I student organization that focuses on helping communities meet their basic needs such as water, food and shelter. HEC operates as a non-profit entity. Students meet regularly depending on involvement to raise funds for international projects. There are various ways to be involved, including:
- Attending general meetings (weekly)
- Participate in project design (weekly working meetings)
- Fundraising (a couple of events each year)
- Volunteering for local service projects (monthly)
General meetings occur at 5:30 p.m., Wednesdays in the ThinkTANK (in the Janssen Engineering Building).
At the project meetings, students evaluate solution alternatives, analyze data (collected by HEC students) and assess our Bolivian partner communities needs to create a sustainable design to be implemented in the summer.
There are a variety of entertaining fundraising events throughout the year involving the Moscow community. The club successfully raises $15,000-$20,000 each year to provide the necessary funds to pay for materials, travel, food and other logistical expenses associated with international construction projects.
