Students Earn $15K at Grand Challenge Scholars Program Pitch Event

Ten engineering students earned a total of $15,000 during the fourth annual Grand Challenge Scholars Program (GCSP) Pitch Event hosted by the University of Idaho College of Engineering. The GCSP is the only undergraduate program of its kind in Idaho, preparing students to solve the 14 Grand Challenges of Engineering in the 21st century as established by the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). Engineering Alumnus Earns White House Presidential Teaching Award

University of Idaho College of Engineering alumnus Sean Boston was recently awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), the highest award given by the U.S. government to K-12 teachers of mathematics and science, including computer science. Boston, who graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 2002, teaches physics and advanced placement physics at Timberline High School in Boise. Read more

Civil Engineering Student Wins Pitch Competition During Boise Startup Week

Civil engineering junior Devin Richards tied for third place in the Boise Startup Week Pitch Competition, earning $500 for his engineering research team's business plan to bring sustainability and energy education to sixth- through 12th-grade students on the Palouse. Boise Startup Week is Idaho's largest event focused on giving students an opportunity to connect with employers in the Boise area and learn from professionals in technology and startup sectors. The University of Idaho College of Engineering will induct five members into its Academy of Engineers, U of I alumni and others recognized for their personal contributions to engineering achievement, leadership, education, service to the profession and advancement of society. Inductees will be celebrated during a ceremony 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in the Silver Room of the Best Western Plus University Inn in Moscow. Read more
