Dakota Roberson’s research interests lie in power systems control, high-performance control design, renewable energy integration, process control and statistical signal processing. Much of Roberson’s research is concentrated on distributed wide-area damping, employing various sources of active power actuation (e.g. HVDC, energy storage). Issues regarding time delay, positive feedback (i.e. regeneration) detection and coupling of distributed systems are of particular interest. These concentrations have resulted in the development of wide-area damping controllers for the western North American Power System, as well as smaller-scale, local control technologies based on energy storage and renewable generation. His teaching interests include power system stability, process automation, estimation/detection theory and advanced classical control.
