Prior to joining the University of Idaho, Krishnan Raja held research faculty positions in the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, and University of Nevada, Reno in the USA, and Tohoku University, Sendai in Japan. Raja has about four years of industrial research experience, where he developed welding consumables for surface modification of engineering components used in oil, cement, steel and construction industries for very high wear and corrosion resistance.

Dr. Raja’s current research interests focus on materials for extreme environments, environmental degradation of materials, electrochemistry (aqueous and high temperature molten salt), and materials for energy conversion (water photo electrolysis) and energy storage (Mg-air battery, oxide super capacitors, and molten salt battery), with an emphasis on structure-property correlation. He is a licensed professional engineer in materials and metallurgical engineering (Idaho State, P16254), and certified Materials Selection and Design Specialist (#25681) issued by the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE). Dr. Raja has more than 130 publications on electrochemistry, environmental degradation, and energy related materials in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. His work has been cited more than 3550 times with an h-index of 26 (Google Scholar data as of August 2020). He was a recipient of DARPA young faculty award in the year 2012.
