Boise Student Commencement FAQ
The ceremony will take place 7:30 p.m. Mountain time Tuesday, May 18, at the Idaho Botanical Garden. Times for other ceremonies can be found online.
All students who RSVP’d will be notified via email if we have to move the ceremony to a different location due to inclement weather conditions. Only students and faculty will be able to attend the ceremony at the new location. Please check your email or the Boise commencement page for any updates.
No tickets are required for the Boise ceremony. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. All seating will be spaced to allow for social distancing. We strongly encourage early guests to start seating from the center of the row. This will limit close contact with other guests.

U of I-branded face masks will be provided to all graduates, faculty and staff participating in the ceremony. These masks are yours to keep. Masks or face coverings are required for all guests. All seating will be spaced 6 feet apart for social distancing.
Students will not be able to shake hands during the ceremony.
Doctoral and master's candidates will need to arrive at the ceremony wearing their hoods. No hooding will take place during the ceremony.
Yes, graduates will have the opportunity for a professional photo without a mask.
Yes, academic regalia, commonly called a cap and gown, is required when participating in the University of Idaho commencement ceremonies. Information on regalia requirements can be found online.
Bachelors, master’s and specialist regalia ordered through Jostens will be shipped to the address provided and is yours to keep. Juris Doctor rental packages will be shipped to Vanessa Montoya, who can be contacted at email@example.com. Law graduates will need to fill out the At-Grad Survey on Idaho Law Careers in order to receive their regalia. Please keep an eye out for an email from Law Careers with more information. All other doctoral rental packages will be shipped to Sandy Larsen, who can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org. They will let graduates know when they can pick up their rental packages.

You should arrive and be ready for line-up no later than 7:15 p.m. Mountain time. A professional photographer will be on site to take pre-ceremony shots.
Idaho Botanical Garden 2355 N. Old Penitentiary Rd., Boise. Park in the garden parking lot for free. Follow the signs to the Line-Up Area.
Bring only the essentials you can’t do without and that will fit into your pocket. There is no place to secure other items during the ceremony. Come to the line-up dressed for the ceremony. Staff will be available to help with hoods as needed. The ceremony will be on a grassy area; plan accordingly when choosing your footwear and attire.
The ceremony will last a little over one hour.
There will not be a rehearsal. Marshals will guide graduates throughout the process from the processional, crossing the stage to receive their diploma covers, reseating and the recessional.
Processional, Ceremony and Recessional
Follow the signs for the line-up area. Staff and marshals will guide you for the processional.
After opening remarks, the guest speaker, faculty award and other brief remarks, the marshal will indicate when your row should stand and approach the platform area to receive your diploma cover. Each student will be individually recognized. Students will not be able to shake hands with the deans or president. After you receive your diploma cover, you will return to your seat. Social distancing will be in place for the entire ceremony. Hooding will not take place during the ceremony. Doctoral and master’s students need to arrive at the line-up wearing their hoods.
After the platform party exits, the marshal will indicate that you may stand and exit the area. The ceremony will be concluded at that point.
