Commencement Information for Idaho Falls Faculty

We are looking forward to the University of Idaho Commencement in Idaho Falls at 4 p.m. Mountain time Wednesday, May 19, at the University Place grounds, and we hope you plan to attend.

U of I branded face coverings will be provided for graduates, faculty and staff participating in the event. Face coverings will be required for all guests and participants. All seating will be socially distanced. There will be no need for student tickets.

Who Should Attend

The platform party will be limited to members who have an active role in the ceremony and deans who have a student graduating from their college. All others will sit in the reserved faculty seating areas. Deans from each college with programs on the Idaho Falls campus are encouraged to attend. Faculty are also encouraged to attend and congratulate their students.

The deadline for ordering faculty regalia has passed. Please contact the Office of Alumni Relations at 208-885-6154 to inquire if additional regalia is available if needed.

Faculty Line-Up/Processional

Faculty members attending the commencement ceremonies should report to the Bennion Student Union Building, dressed in regalia by 3:30 p.m. Mountain time. Signage will direct faculty to the appropriate location for line-up. The procession will begin approximately at 4 p.m. Mountain time.

After opening remarks, guest speakers, medallion awards, honorary degrees and recognition of honors, students will approach the stage to receive their diploma cover. Students will not be able to shake hands with the deans or president but will be able to have a socially distanced photograph. Doctoral and masters candidates will need to arrive to the ceremony wearing their hoods. No hooding will take place during the ceremony. Faculty should remain seated and congratulate their students from afar as they are lined up to receive their diploma cover. Faculty can also help by reminding students to wear masks, remain socially distant and encouraging students to remain through the entire ceremony.

We are eager to celebrate the university’s 126th Commencement with you on May 19. Contact the Idaho Falls Student Services Office at 208-757-5450, email or Graduation Services in the Office of the Registrar at 208-885-4619 or 208-885-1296, or email with questions.
