Toomey focuses on delivery of quality healthy living programs to ease the challenges families’ face, especially those who have few resources. Through grants, contracts and gifts she works to provide programs to vulnerable youth. These programs give youth a sense of belonging and a chance at showing independence, mastering skills and contributing to their communities. Specifically, Toomey directs the 4-H Food Smart Families (2014-2017), reaching over 8,300 youth, engaging 41 teen advocates and 32 college interns. Toomey serves on the National 4-H Council Latino Advisory Committee, Extension Committee on Policy and Programs Positive Youth Develop for Health Team, and Idaho Extension’s Internship Committee. She advises on outreach to Latino youth and families, and directs healthy living curricula and resources.
