A new method of fee assessment caused problems with the charges for our American Language & Culture Program students. Delora and Chris not only solved the problem within a few hours, they both looked at each individual record of approx. 50 ALCP students to make sure each one was corrected. Karee helped investigate the mystery with her expertise. There are six individuals at Facilities that make up the General Technician team. They are willing and able to assist any of our shops whenever extra help is needed. All have helped us with numerous landscaping projects this past year including large tree removals, winter gravel cleanup, mowing, tree planting, and irrigation installation, among others. Scheduling and requesting their assistance is efficient and always customer-first driven. She keeps them organized and on schedule. The children spend the day engaging in water activities. Major Kudos to the Career Advising Team in Career Services. This year we moved to a specialized model of services, where advisors focus on specific colleges and spend part of their week taking career appointments in the respective college buildings. In just Fall 2016 alone, career advisors saw 7,230 students through appointments, drop-ins, and workshops/presentations. To give you a perspective on how big that is, in all of Fall 2015-Spring 2016 we saw 7,830 students total, which was a yearly record. With our specialized model, Career Services saw almost as many students in one semester as we did all of last year. Read more

An outside contractor severed multiple data and AV connections while relocating a floor box in the auditorium of JEB 104, taking the multimedia system offline. Although he already had a full plate of tasks for the day, Daryl rushed over to the room and swiftly and expertly re-terminated the data lines so the upcoming events in the room could go on as scheduled. Daryl's timely action and dedication to duty spared many people from the inconvenience of having to have their events moved or canceled.

Dianna came up with a great idea to utilize our auto scrubber to clean the atrium floor instead of hand mopping. We had never thought to try this in the past. It worked so well we are now doing it a couple times each week. The Career Services office hosted an Open House on Nov. 16 to share our services with students, staff and faculty and to celebrate National Career Development Day. The UI Catering Team setup a professional, sharp looking food and beverage station for pizza and soda. The team also coordinated well responding to several phone calls I made to them during the event. The issues were resolved very quickly. Thank you for taking such good care of our event needs. Renee Schlickenmeyer, Departmental Grant Administrator, Idaho Space Consortium

Renee' is n great Departmental Grant Administrator. She, along with all the other DGAs, submits subaward requests to OSP on a regular basis. DGAs act as intermediaries between the subrecipient and faculty, making sure that all proper documentation is complete before submitting it to OSP. As the subaward administrator, I need good DGAs, they are vital to the subaward process. Renee' is always prompt in submitting subaward requests. She includes all documentation and is quick to report any changes in information. Renee' has also reviewed templates and given feedback on how OSP can improve its subaward process. She has gone above and beyond her DGA duties.

Sam Koester has been a joy to work with since he became an indispensable part of our team at College of Graduate Studies over 3 years ago. One of his fortés is creating highly visible events that have made COGS more successful. He is instrumental in getting 3MT Dissertation off the ground. Innovation Showcase has increased visibility and UI involvement under his direction. His impressive artistic ability is something our office has been missing and is highly valued! COGS is part of an alliance of 4 universities funded by a grant from NSF, whose goal is to increase American Indian/Native Alaskan students in STEM. His assistance to our Interim Dean has been instrumental and I know he relies on Sam consistently. He is genuinely committed to this university. Thank you, Sam!

University Support Services Team Cleaning Specialists

The USS Team Cleaning Specialists do a fabulous job keeping the Kibbie Dome clean for students, staff, faculty, and visitors. This is truly a challenge, every day, for this small group of people to do so much work but yet, they get it done in a timely manner and are a joy to be around. Their supervisor, Joe Hunt, is always busy and never seems to slow down. He not only manages the cleaning of the Kibbie Dome, and all of the offices within; but also the maintenance of the Kibbie Dome with his maintenance staff. I am always amazed at how much this small group accomplishes, on a daily basis, with all of the different events that happen each and every day in the Kibbie Dome. They maintain all of the offices on each floor, besides keeping the concourses and the bleachers clean in the Kibbie Dome. They are an amazing, organized group of people. Team Effort to Create Videoconferencing System

Earlier this afternoon I participated in the testing of our new videoconference systems linking EP204 and CDA/Harbor Center room 240B…and all went smoothly. As project architect and manager of this critical project linking/expanding the computer science program in both Moscow and CDA, Liza Morris did a professional and unwavering job of pushing this project through on time with exemplary results. Liza’s efforts were joined by equally great work on the part of Greg Clifford and Matt Kitterman from ITS. I’ll laud the efforts of our own Ray Anderson as well. All in all…a great team effort. It’s a great room and Moscow-CDA faculty look forward to using it beginning this Thursday. As team leader, It couldn’t/wouldn’t have happened without Liza’s hard work and problem solving.

I was directed to Paul to share with him the lack of trash bin near the WWI Grove in the C.H. Shattuck Arboretum. Paul connected with me right away and shared with me the process on what it takes to add trash bins to the Arboretum. Paul worked his magic and shared with me recently that there is a new trash bin now located at the WWI Grove! As this is an area with three nice benches in a quiet area just south of the Administration Building it is nice to have a place for people to put their waste while they are enjoying what our fine campus has to offer.

Mark took initiative on his own to develop a virtual tour (through Google) of the Student Recreation Center. He did an extensive amount of research, came in early in the morning on weekends to capture photos when the building was closed and worked hand in hand with our web coordinator to make it work within the UI parameters. In addition, Mark has blogged about his experience and has received many inquiries from other schools on how it was done. The tour can now be seen on our Campus Recreation website. Read more

Suzanne is the new Sponsored Programs Administrator assigned to work with the College of Natural Resources. Our college submits a high volume of proposals and some of the agencies we work with do not follow the normal grant processes so many times each proposal, agency, set of rules, etc. are unique. Suzanne has done a great job of getting up to speed on the nuances of CNR proposals and our high volume. She has been wonderful working with our faculty members and me personally. She's been a great addition to the OSP/CNR grant team and I am glad to get to work with her. Read more
