Barton Named Chair of Department of Psychology and Communication Studies

Long-term faculty member Benjamin Barton will serve as the next chair of the Department of Psychology and Communication Studies, beginning Wednesday, Aug. 14. Barton has been with the U of I since 2008, earning the rank of associate professor in 2014. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology from the University of Memphis and his Ph.D. in developmental psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Read more

Jack Dawson, a dean of the University of Idaho Coeur d'Alene for 26 years, died July 16, 2019, after a long battle with Parkinson's. Dawson served as the leader of the North Idaho center from 1982 until 2008, growing the local U of I presence from a single classroom with no degree offerings to multiple buildings and more than 15 degree programs. Prestigious Fellowship Will Support Doctoral Student’s Research in the Arctic

Andrew Maguire, a doctoral student in the College of Natural Resources, was recently awarded the Future Investigators in NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology fellowship. Maguire, who is based at the McCall Field Campus, was one of 120 students across the nation selected for the honor. The fellowship provides $90,000 over two years. Read more

Updated Password Policy Allows Long Expiration

New password standards will allow most users to maintain the same password indefinitely when combined with Secure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Secure MFA includes using the DUO Mobile application or a hardware token and never using SMS or voice calls for identity authentication. With the addition of MFA via DUO across most U of I accounts the risk of compromise has significantly decreased. Read more

Brolley to Join International Programs Office, Open House Scheduled Thursday at LLC No. 3

Dana Brolley is the new director of International Student, Scholar and Faculty Services for the International Programs Office, effective today, July 15. Brolley brings more than 18 years of experience in higher education and worked in multiple capacities within international education, including immigration advising, enrollment management, marketing and recruitment. Grad Receives Fulbright Distinguished Teaching Award

Gerald Dalebout, an alumnus of the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences, is one of 25 U.S. citizens tapped to receive a prestigious Fulbright Distinguished Teaching Award. Dalebout, who earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from U of I, has taught social studies at Moscow High School since 2011. The award will allow him to live in the Netherlands and study the Dutch educational approach from January through June 2020. Read more

Jeff Dodge has served as an associate dean at the college since 2012. He and his husband, Mark McLaughlin in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, are leaving U of I for the Penn State University Dickinson School of Law where Dodge will begin an associate dean role. New Advanced Email Security Service Begins with URL Defense

Email continues to be the No. 1 attack vector for malicious actors. The University of Idaho Budget Finance Committee funded the Advanced Email Filtering project to improve email security across the organization. This week, ITS will implement a core component of this project that includes a number of email protection features including a new URL Defense service. Read more

Host a Pakistani Student This Summer

The International Programs Office (IPO) has opportunities available for U of I employees to host a Pakistani student in their home for 10 days (Aug. 9-18) as a part of the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (UGRAD). This program is funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the International Research and Exchanges Board in partnership with U of I. Host families will be compensated $140 to host the student. Read more
