New Construction News
The ICCU Arena will be a 66,000 sq ft, 4,000 seat state-of-the-art basketball arena constructed with Idaho wood products using mass timber construction. Expected completion is 2021.

The contractor for the Pitman Center Exterior Repairs is on site. They will be installing scaffolding and pedestrian protection throughout August. Once the scaffolding is in place they will begin demolishing the existing tile from the face of the building and preparing the surface to receive new weather barrier and exterior cladding made of terracotta tile. In addition there will be exterior lighting upgrades to the canopies and face of the building. Main entrances will remain open, with periodic temporary closures as needed. The scaffolding will remain in place throughout the duration of the project. The project is expected to be complete by the end of March 2020.
Tunnel lid repair and replacement is occurring at 6th & Line Streets. The project will take approx. 100 days, with estimated construction completion around November 18.
The existing tunnel lids are being replaced due to the deterioration of the lid structure.
Shop and Storage Addition to KUID building. Rough-in carpentry is complete. Project completion expected later this fall.
CKA Architects have developed an approved design concept. The site plan has been developed to account for the Seed Potato facility while still providing ample room for the future new Vandal Brand Meats lab. Construction completion expected 2021.
After several years of feasibility studies and coordination with the Department of Energy and Avista Utilities, the District Energy Plant intends to install three backpressure steam turbines to produce electrical power on campus using woody biomass fuel. This project was approved for design in July by the State of Idaho Board of Education. If approved for construction in the fall, work will begin to install the turbines and controls for the first campus microgrid. Generating 12% of the campus electricity load, the project is estimated to save the university $298,000 annually. The project was awarded a $250,000 Wood Innovations Grant from the U.S. Forest Service. Anticipated project completion date is December 2020.
