If Sophos Anti-Virus is installed on your University of Idaho computer, it is likely the Sophos Firewall Client was also installed. The Sophos Firewall Client protects your computer from malicious applications and processes which may try to access the network. Sometimes, the firewall client might block something that is harmless or otherwise legitimate. Here are a few things to look at if the Sophos Firewall Client is installed, and you suspect it might be blocking your action.

To access your firewall options, right-click the Sophos shield in your system tray and select Open Sophos Endpoint Security and Control.
Configure Firewall and View Firewall Log
Once the Sophos Endpoint Security and Control window opens, you will see your firewall options – Configure firewall and View firewall log.
If you are troubleshooting a potential firewall issue, you can make changes to the configuration; however, these changes will be overwritten the next time Sophos updates. To have an application or process added to the global firewall rules, notify the ITS Help Desk so that a ticket can be opened for the security team. The ITS Help Desk can be reached by phone at 208-885-HELP (4357). The ITS Help Desk is located in 128 of the Teaching & Learning Center.
View Firewall Log
The Sophos firewall log provides a great deal of information regarding firewall activity such as blocked connections, allowed connections, and events including, hidden processes, modified memory and new/modified applications. It’s a valuable resource when you are troubleshooting potential firewall issues.
Alternately, if this is a temporary need to bypass the firewall (remote vendor support, for example), select Configure firewall then, Allow all traffic from the Firewall configuration window.
Note: Do not make additional changes here as they will only be temporary. When finished with temporarily allowing all traffic, return to the configuration to uncheck this box and re-enable the firewall.
