ITS offers account management services such as account creation, deletion, retention and sponsorship as well as account-specific tasks such as password changes and resets, group management and account name changes.

Eligibility

Account management is offered to all students, faculty, staff and departments at the University of Idaho.

The Vandal Card office produces a variety of cards for individuals indirectly or formerly affiliated with the university, and for community members who would like to utilize certain facilities at the university. The Application Administration team is responsible for providing technical and functional support for many of the enterprise applications used on campus as well as some critical need, departmental applications. Services include upgrades and patch implementation, account maintenance, application troubleshooting and consultation on technical solutions which might benefit the university. 

The Application Administrators are also available for administration consultation to other departmental application or system administrators on self-hosted applications.

Description

ITS offers two solutions for bulk mailing to large numbers (300+) of recipients. MailChimp is available for both one-time and recurring requests. It provides mail tracking information, such as message opens and link clicking. Mailman is available when a group would like to maintain a mailing list with subscription capability, and the ability to moderate outgoing messages.

Eligibility

Bulk emailing is available to faculty, staff and departments at the University of Idaho. Students with bulk mailing requests must go through ASUI.

After a mailman list is setup by ITS, it becomes self-service bulk mailing.

Inter/intra building connectivity provides voice, wide area network (WAN), metropolitan area network (MAN), and local area network (LAN) connectivity via the copper and fiber optic backbone systems to support the UI IT Infrastructure. This service supports a variety of building intelligence systems including security systems, building automation systems (BAS), HVAC, elevators and a variety of other services. These systems connect UI locations on and off the Moscow Campus.

TS provides installation, management, maintenance and support to users of classroom computers and audio/visual equipment.

  • Non-general purpose classrooms built and maintained by ITS and covered under the terms of an MOU or other agreement between the department/owner and ITS

Description

ITS provides assistance in database design for business applications utilizing either Oracle or SQL Server RDBMS. Guidance can be provided for both relational and object-oriented database modeling efforts. ITS staff can either assist in the design effort or review completed designs before they are implemented in production. Designs will be evaluated for normalized structure and for performance considerations. Indexing, partitioning, file separation and RAID configuration will also be considered. Assistance for performance tuning issues on existing databases is also available.

Rates

There are no usage, access, or maintenance charges for the data network service.

There is a charge for new equipment and Wide Area Network (WAN) services. The estimated costs for standard network equipment are:

  • 24-port 100Mbps Switch - $450+
  • 48-port 100Mbps Switch - $780+
  • 24-port 1Gbps Switch - $1600+
  • 48-port 1Gbps Switch - $2700+

The standard WAN service is either a point-to-point T1 or a virtual connection starting at 10Mbps through Idaho Regional Optical Network (IRON). Cost for, and availability of, WAN services vary by city.

Oracle Imaging Service provides a repository to store any electronic documents, and easy retrieval and viewing for end users via a web-based or installed desktop client. The system allows users to assign identifying values to those documents for easy searching, provides retention schedules for the documents, allows a scanner set up to scan and capture paper documents and provides a wide variety of security options so departments and users can control who can view, print, modify, annotate and redact content on those documents.

Marketplace application is a shopping-cart equipped application that is PCI compliant and is integrated into Banner. Marketplace stores are available for organizational units to sell products and collect payments for event registrations, subscriptions and other activities related to the department's scope of activity.

Revenue received through Marketplace is automatically placed in the budget you specify when the transaction is finalized.

Description

Exchange Online accounts provide email, calendaring, scheduling and other administrative activities such as contact lists, tasks, etc., for faculty, staff and students. Microsoft Outlook 2013+ or Outlook for Mac email desktop clients are recommended for access to Exchange Online accounts. Outlook Web Access provides a web-based interface for access to your Exchange Online account. Mobile devices such as Android and iPhones also have apps which can access Exchange Online accounts.

The ITS Media Center provides short-term AV and technology equipment checkout for students, faculty and staff at the University of Idaho in support of assignments and administration of the university.

The Media Center also provides conference support on campus and in the region and maintains, replaces and repairs equipment in legacy classrooms.

Students can check out equipment by providing an authorization form signed by a teacher, while staff and faculty have to provide a budget number in order to cover lost or damaged equipment, as well as to ensure equipment is used for university functions.

Rates

Equipment rental is provided at no extra cost to students, staff and faculty for class assignments and/or university events. Equipment to be used at events charging fees has to be rented at a reduced rate.

The Media Center can deliver and set up equipment all over campus - in classrooms, conference rooms and departmental rooms for a nominal labor fee.

Troubleshooting checked out equipment or in-house help with Media Center equipment is free.

Labor costs for deliveries, setup, conferences and tech support is charged at $25/per person per hour.

Video processing is charged at $6/hour based on the length of video and conference support is charged with a minimal hourly labor fee.

Description

The Network Firewall service provides protection for devices on the University of Idaho network. There are a set of standard Network Firewall policies that may be applied to a University subnet on the Moscow Campus, including three policies defined for end-user stations: Enhanced Security User Network (ESUN), Regular Security User Network (RSUN), and Limited Security User Network (SUN).

There are two policies defined for servers Printer and Server Basic. In addition, there is a border firewall where qualified systems administrators can managed internet server firewall policies for servers that are not in a standard server policy subnet or a *SUN policy subnet.

The network firewall service is provided to all students, faculty, staff, departments, visitors, contractors, affiliates and vendors at the University of Idaho who connect to the network on campus.

Description

Customer physical servers are housed in a physically secured and monitored data center with continuously monitored redundant power and environmental controls. The customer is responsible for all OS and application software, installation, maintenance and security. However, data backup service is available.

Interaction with physical equipment is provided by customers through remote access cards that should be installed in the server. These generally meet all customer access needs. Systems Team provides “remote hands” for straightforward installation of replacement or upgraded hardware such as RAM or hot-swappable components. Physical access outside of this is coordinated through Systems Team, generally for a fee. All service is provided at the Moscow campus.

The University Records Center, located in the Student Union Building (SUB), is available to all UI departments to store their semi-active and permanent records. Banker boxes are available at no charge for departments to use to send documents to the Records Center. Description

As part of the security plan within ITS, several different methods are used to promote security awareness and education. As phishing is the most prevalent tactic used in cyber-attacks against the university, ITS runs phishing campaigns for staff and faculty to train them on how to spot and report phishing attacks. The ITS Security office also provides security awareness through social media (@uiitsecurity), security bulletins, newsletters (A Watchful UI) and the annual Computer Security Awareness Symposium.

Eligibility

The phishing campaigns are only available to staff, faculty and UI departments. All other security awareness education is available to all students, faculty, staff and departments at the University of Idaho.

The University of Idaho offers 18 student computing labs located across campus, consisting of 550 workstations and 26 printers. All labs are open during building hours except the two 24-hour labs located in the Administration building. 

The student computing labs offer specialized software such as, Matlab, MathCAD, SPSS, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite and other software applications to meet academic needs and are available to all students, faculty and staff at the University of Idaho. A UI user account is required to login to a student computing labs workstation.

Description

Printing is available to students at any printer located in the Student Computing Labs as well as printers located in the Teaching and Learning Center. Each semester, students are given a print quote of 250 pages. Any unused pages are rolled over to the next semester the student is enrolled. Vandal Cards are the official ID cards of the University of Idaho. If you are a student, faculty member or staff at the University of Idaho, visit the Vandal Card office in room 124 of the Student Union Building (SUB) to get your Vandal Card.

Description

Video conferencing bridging allows multiple faculty, staff and students from all over the world to communicate with and learn from each other while avoiding the high costs and scheduling problems of travel.

Additionally, groups can attend lectures, meetings and conferences without leaving the office simply by setting up VTC in one room, where viewers can remotely join the distant events via a full-screen television experience.

The following are just a few of the features that the ITS Video Bridge offers:

  • Share content to show every participant your slides, spreadsheets or documents. 
  • Provide IP connectivity for lower-cost connections. 
  • Present enhanced, near high-definition, video quality for all participants. 
  • Conduct a public forum without renting a hotel ballroom. 
  • Record live meetings for on demand viewing. 
  • Host virtual meetings for town halls, councils or classes.

Eligibility

ITS provides video conferencing event support upon request to all current faculty, staff and departments.

Self-Service Information

ITS does not offer any self service for video conferencing. Zoom has an extensive support site to get started.

Rates

For meetings and events there is a $60 equipment setup and take-down fee.  There could be additional fees required depending on the venue size and additional departments needed to support the event.

  • On-site equipment support – Moscow campus only is $60 per hour.
  • On-call equipment support – Moscow campus only is $30 per hour.
There is a $50 fee for cancelations that happen within 24 hours of the event.

Description

The Virtual Private Network (VPN) service provides a method for gaining remote access to the University of Idaho network resources over the internet when traveling or at home. There is a VandalVPN service and a SysAdVPN service. The SysAdVPN service is required when the remote user must have a fixed IP address assignment.

Eligibility

VPN is available to students, faculty, staff, departments, retirees, contractors and vendors at the University of Idaho.

The Virtual Private Network client software can be downloaded from the UI support download page and you can follow ITS tutorials on instructions for installing, configuring and using the VPN client.

Description

Virtual servers are provided in a high-availability, clustered VMWare vSphere environment. All risks associated with the underlying physical hardware and network connectivity are managed by Systems Team. The customer is responsible for all OS and application software, installation, maintenance and security. Data backup service is available.

Description

ITS offers the VLab service, which allows students to run university licensed specialty software such as MathCAD, MatLab, ArcGIS, etc., on their own personal computer from anywhere with an internet connection.

The program is run on the university server and is interfaced completely through a web client in the Citrix receiver. Read more about VLab.

Eligibility

ITS provides VLab to all currently-enrolled students, faculty and staff at the University of Idaho.

Rates

Students are charged $56 per semester in student computing lab fees.

Description

ITS offers static content web hosting on a UI shared drive for use in an academic or professional setting. These pages are publicly available, with no password protection. Examples of acceptable use of webspace include departmental projects, organizations, professor or class websites, academic classwork and student websites for a particular class.

Eligibility

ITS provides web hosting for faculty, staff and departments at the University of Idaho as long as the hosting meets an academic purpose.

Web hosting for students must be requested and sponsored by a staff member.

The Wireless LAN service provides network access to networked resources of the University of Idaho as well as the Internet, Internet2 (I2), and National Lamda Rail (NLR). The wireless service is based on the 802.11a, 802.11g and 802.11n. Faculty, Staff and Students are encouraged to use AirVandalGold. Guests are invited to use AirVandalGuest.

Wireless LAN service is available to students, faculty, staff, departments, retirees, parents, prospective students, visitors, contractors, alumni, affiliates and vendors.
