UI Extension Plans North Idaho Cereal Schools Jan. 23-25

University of Idaho Extension will sponsor three workshops for grain growers Jan. 23-25 in Lewiston, Greencreek and Bonners Ferry.

The cereal schools will feature updates on markets from the Idaho Wheat Commission and Idaho Barley Commission, comparison of costs and returns from conventional tillage and direct seeding, variety trial results, pesticide use for canola production, weed control and an analysis of dietary benefits and misconceptions about wheat.

Each cereal school will conclude with a sponsored lunch. Participants can earn pesticide recertification or certified crop advisor credits by attending the schools.

The Jan. 23 Lewiston Cereal School is planned from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lewiston Roundup Grounds Ketch Pen. Growers are asked to RSVP by contacting the UI Extension, Nez Perce County office at 1239 Idaho St. in Lewiston, nezperce@uidaho.edu or 208-799-3096.

The Jan. 24 Prairie Area Cereal School is planned from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Greencreek Community Center. Growers are asked to RSVP to the UI Extension, Lewis County office, lewis@uidaho.edu or 208-937-2311.

The Jan. 25 Bonners Ferry Cereal School is planned from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Boundary County Fairgrounds. Growers are asked to RSVP to the UI Extension, Boundary County office, kpainter@uidaho.edu or 208-267-3235.
