Historical Archaeology Book Named 2017 "Outstanding Title"

February 07, 2018

"Historical Archaeology Through a Western Lens" edited by Mark Warner, professor and associate dean for graduate studies in the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences, and Margaret Purser of Sonoma State University, was selected as a 2017 Outstanding Academic Title by Choice.

This prestigious list is published annually by the publication of the American Library Association to honor the best in scholarly titles. The Outstanding Academic Title designation is only awarded to approximately 10 percent of more than 6,000 works reviewed in Choice each year.

Titles are evaluated based on the following criteria:
• overall excellence in presentation and scholarship
• importance relative to other literature in the field
• distinction as a first treatment of a given subject in book or electronic form
• originality or uniqueness of treatment
• value to undergraduate students
• importance in building undergraduate library collections
