Energy Storage Technologies for Space Travel Discussed at Next IRIC Lunch and Learn

February 05, 2019

Professor Herb Hess and Associate Professor Christine Berven in the colleges of Science and Engineering lead a team of students to design and build flywheel energy storage systems (FESS) in the IRIC building. These FESS-based technologies can generate and store energy from renewable sources like the wind and sun and will one day help NASA achieve its space travel and extraterrestrial colonization missions.

At the next IRIC Lunch and Learn, U of I-FESS team members Dillon Morehouse and David Arnett, graduate students in Physics and Electrical Engineering, respectively, will present these NASA-funded efforts in more detail at noon Thursday, Feb. 7 in the IRIC Atrium.

IRIC Lunch and Learn presentations allow students, faculty and staff to share and cross-pollinate ideas in a fun and informal lunchtime setting. All are encouraged to attend. Free drinks and snacks are also provided.

Are you off campus or would rather view this presentation from your desk? Watch it via Zoom.
