Clery and Title IX Posters Now Available

July 26, 2019

Two informational flyers will be distributed around campus this week to help employees better understand responsibilities and rights under Title IX and the Clery Act. Help post and disseminate the flyers in offices around campus. The flyers are also available on the Women's Center website.

The flyers are a result of a $300,000 grant from the Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women, which is in its third and final year. The goal of the grant is to educate the University of Idaho community on the university's responsibilities and students' rights under Title IX and the Clery Act.

According to Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance."

This includes gender-based violence and specifically, behavior classified as sexual misconduct.

The Clery Act is a consumer protection law that provides transparency around campus crime policy and statistics. The university's Office of Public Safety and Security publishes an Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, which is compiled using reports of crimes from Campus Security Authorities and Responsible Employees.

It is important all staff, faculty and students know and understand their rights and responsibilities under Title IX and the Clery Act.

More information about this awareness campaign is available by contacting the Women's Center at or 208-885-2777.
