Construction Begins on Administration Building

September 16, 2019

Construction begins this week on the Southwest exterior façade of the Administration Building. A portion of the northeast corner of Parking Lot 040 will be blocked off to allow construction staging and work space for the contractor. It is expected that the construction fencing will be in place for 70 to 90 days.

The south entrances to the Admin will be kept open, but pedestrian access will be limited to the southwest ramp section. The exterior stairs will be blocked off to prevent entrance to the work zone and construction area. A temporary structure will be assembled over the ramp to provide pedestrian protection from any work taking place overhead. All other entrances to the Admin will remain unaffected.

This project will reconstruct a portion of the parapet wall at the top of the southwest entrance, make various repairs to the brick masonry and mortar, clean all the existing brick on the southwest elevation, and replace the small section of roofing on the canopy over the southwest entrance. This project is made possible by funding provided through the Idaho Permanent Building Fund, and is administered by the Idaho Division of Public Works in cooperation with U of I Facilities and U of I Parking and Transportation Services. Pioneer Waterproofing successfully bid the project and will be the general contractor on site.
