Microsoft Office, File Storage and Account Login Changes Coming
January 23, 2020
Beginning 10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, all U of I-managed computers on the U of I network that have an older version of Office such as 2010, 2013 or 2016, will have the installation of Office apps on their computer upgraded to Office 365 Pro Plus. If your computer is not on the network at 10 p.m. Jan. 27, to allow this upgrade, the Office 365 Pro Plus installation will begin the next time you connect the computer to the U of I network. This could cause an inconvenience if the installation starts when first connecting to the U of I network after Jan. 27.
How to avoid any inconvenience:
- Ensure the computer is on the network by 10 p.m. Jan. 27;
- Get on the U of I network at least four hours before a class or presentation to allow the install to happen; or
- Upgrade My Office now.
Changes continue to be made across several of the tools faculty, staff and students use at the university. These changes will bring the university’s storage and collaboration tools to current versions and solutions. Implementation of these tools supports the university's goals of improving collaboration and innovation and allows any user to create and share documents almost anywhere. These tools utilize services to which U of I is already subscribed, providing vastly increased storage at no additional cost for the university community.
