Bioregional Planning Expert Working with Governor to Increase Idaho’s Broadband Internet Access

June 14, 2019

Jaap Vos, head of the College of Art and Architecture's Bioregional Planning and Community Design Program, accepted an invitation this month to join Idaho's Broadband Task Force under the direction of Gov. Brad Little and the Idaho Department of Commerce. The task force will focus on defining, incentivizing and improving broadband services in Idaho to meet Little's goal of ensuring "rural and urban Idaho are connected and well-positioned to attract and create maximum success."

In his State of the State address earlier this year, Little noted that inadequate broadband infrastructure has deterred Idaho's growth and economic development. In a statement last month, he also noted the direct correlation between reliable internet connectivity and a vital economy during our data-driven age.

Vos will join 36 other task force members, including high-speed internet providers, representatives from various industries in Idaho, government representatives and legislators, and various regional experts. Vos will help draft a final recommendation on improving and incentivizing Idaho's broadband services, which is expected to reach the governor's office by November 2019.
