U of I College of Engineering Diversity Initiative Recognized by American Society for Engineering Education

June 21, 2019

The U of I College of Engineering has been recognized as a Bronze Level institution in the American Society for Engineering Education’s (ASEE) national Diversity Recognition Program. The recognition is given to universities across the U.S. that are committed to establishing support for underrepresented groups in engineering; assessing institutional policies, culture and climate; and implementing programs to strengthen K-12 and community college outreach for long-term growth.

The college’s efforts were also recognized by the ASEE as exemplar, a shining example of colleges that are making great progress and have a comprehensive plan in place. The College of Engineering was one of the first to sign the Dean’s Diversity Letter released by the ASEE in 2014, indicating a firm commitment to building a more vibrant engineering community on campus through its Diversity and Inclusion Initiative and proactive strategies to increase the representation of women and underrepresented groups in its student and faculty population.
