Information for Deans and Department Chairs
Announcement: Course evaluations were moved to a new vendor, Anthology (formerly CampusLabs), beginning with Summer 2020 courses. For quick access, click here. Please note that reports prior to Summer 2020 are only available in the old VandalWeb system or by emailing email@example.com. Additionally, Promotion and Tenure reports, must also be requested by email, as these are created outside the course evaluation system.
By default, all department chairs should have access to course evaluations for faculty in their department. Deans and associate deans should have access to course evaluations for faculty in their college. To make changes to permissions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Default permissions are updated annually based on planned personnel changes.
Accessing Campus Labs Course Evaluations
1. To access your course evaluation results, please go to https://uidaho.campuslabs.com/Ce/
2. Login to the site using your campus username and password.
In the Reporting menu select Faculty Reports, Question Mean Analysis, or Response Rates.
Report administrators (i.e., Deans and Department Chairs) have access to some or all of the reports below:
- Faculty Quantitative Data (for individual sections)
- Faculty Qualitative Data (for individual sections)
- Segment Comparisons (for individual sections)
- Instructor Summary Reports
- Question Mean Analysis
- Response Rate Report
Access to reports and permission are set by the Full Site Administrator(s) on campus. To request permission adjustments or for more information, email the Associate Director, Assessment and Accreditation at email@example.com.
A list of faculty that you have access to view reports for will populate on this page.
**For report administrators with multiple administrator roles (noted under the 'Role' heading), you may need to toggle between institutional units to view results.
To view the Quantitative and Qualitative Responses, click on Summary Report.
The Quantitative Report shows breaks down each quantitative question to include the mean, standard, deviation, and total responses for a single course section.
The Qualitative Report shows all of the responses to open-ended questions for a single course section.
The Segment Comparison Report allows instructors to compare a single course section to other courses in their program, department, college/school, or institution. There must be a minimum of three sections in a unit for a comparison to be made.
To choose the segment to compare to, open the drop-down next to 'your course compared to' and choose the applicable segment. The report will then reprocess to include the mean for the segment chosen.
These reports can be saved as a PDF using the "Print Reports" button or printing through your internet browser.
Deans and Chairs also have access to individual course reports. Click on the Course Reports option and then select the appropriate course to review.
Instructor Summary Reports are available for each instructor that was evaluated within a term. There is a summary report for each evaluation that was used. Each question asked on the evaluation is listed with the frequency, total number of responses, mean, standard deviation, and number of students that may have skipped the question. Courses are grouped together by question so that the instructor and/or administrator can get a holistic view of all data for that particular item.
Reports may be printed by using the print function in any browser. PDF's may be made in browsers like Google Chrome where a 'Save as PDF' option is available.
Question Mean Analysis
The Question Mean Analysis (QMA) is a summary report for all course sections located in your assigned institutional area. The main page displays each question asked on the evaluation with the ability to focus the data by each level of the institutional unit chart.
A count of courses is listed with a hyperlink to review the details for each section. The course details, instructor, and mean for that question are listed. Faculty names also have a hyperlink to directly take you to the full report for that section.
The Question Mean Analysis is a report for Campus Administrators, Provosts, Deans, and Department Chairs. This report gives an overall summary by question of all results in the area the person is responsible for. A Department Chair can only view the courses/faculty in their department, a Dean can only view courses/faculty in their college. These access levels are assigned through User Roles.
The report is laid out by displaying the mean for each question on the evaluation. The data may be filtered by changing the drop-down selections. This allows for comparing Colleges to Colleges or Departments to Departments.
Response Rate Report
The Response Rate report lets you see the response rate for active and closed courses that you have access to. You have the ability to toggle between terms, evaluations, and at what unit level you want to include (in this example below, we see the results at the Institutional level, but you can adjust to the college or program level, depending on your user access permissions).
You can also adjust what courses you see by active and closed administrations and the # of days until the administration closes. You'll notice that the percentage displaying near the top left is the overall response rate for all displayed courses, while the response rate for each course appears along the far right column. You can further control which courses display by adjusting the Response Rate Threshold slider. If you want to see all courses with a response rate of 50% or less, move the slider to the middle. If you want to see all courses with less than a 100% response rate, move the slider to 99%.
How is the mean calculated?
See this Anthology resource on How the mean is calculated.
Why can’t I view my results?
Reports may not have been released yet by your campus administrator OR you may have not met the threshold or the number of results to force your results to be released. Results are generally released on the morning following the day final grades are due to the Registrar (generally they are released on Wednesday morning around 8:00am).
NOTE: Spring 2020 and Summer 2020 course evaluation reports will only be shared with administrators once the deadline for faculty to opt out of course evaluations due to COVID-19 has passed and changes are processed. The deadline is currently September 15.
Reports for courses that receive fewer than three responses from students will not be released to instructors to maintain student confidentiality. The data may still be included in aggregate reports for the department or college but will not be associated with the instructor due to the minimum threshold not being met.
Can I print my instructor reports?
You are able to print individual course reports by clicking the button next to the term name, however, summary reports can only be printed through your normal browser functions.
Are student identities confidential?
Yes – instructors and report administrators cannot see the names or identifiers of individual students.
