Academics
The Department of Geology offers a unique educational experience. The diverse terrain of the western Rocky Mountain, internationally recognized faculty, and opportunities to conduct research contribute to an education that will prepare students for exciting career opportunities.
Undergraduate Program
Our undergraduate program explores the geological processes of the earth, from the formation of rocks and minerals to the history of life on our evolving and tectonically-dynamic planet. You will also learn methods for locating, preserving and protecting natural resources like groundwater, metals and petroleum.
Graduate Program
The graduate program provides students with training in theory and modern field observation strategies. Graduate students work with our internationally recognized faculty to gain research experience as they solve problems around the world and investigate processes occurring on other planets. We have strong programs in the field and laboratory aspects of the earth sciences, and our faculty are committed to active involvement with students in their research.
Research Opportunities
Our research facilities, along with those of our collaborators, provide the technology and tools needed to conduct your research at the University of Idaho. Numerous research opportunities are available for graduate and undergraduate students.
