Community Testing

The HPL offers testing available to UI faculty, staff, and students, as well as the community members for a fee. Testing includes DXA scans and Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) assessments. More information is available below. Payments can be in cash, check, or credit/debit card. For group pricing, please reach out directly. Testing can be scheduled here.

DXA

A Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) scan assesses bone mineral density, fat mass (including visceral adipose tissue) and muscle mass. A DXA scan provides vital health information for anyone wanting to assess their body composition, track bone density loss, or anything in between. The scan takes approximately ~10 minutes, and our staff will discuss the results with you following your assessment.

RMR

The Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) assessment determines the rate in which your body burns calories at rest. RMR plays an important role in determining Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) and can provide vital information regarding calorie intake. The protocol consists of lying comfortably for about 45 minutes – 1 hour as our equipment measures your expired air.

InBody (BIA)

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis is a quick and cost-effective assessment to assess body composition. The assessment involves standing on a InBody BIA scale for approximately 1-2 minutes while an undetectable electrical current passes through the body. The InBody can also detect total body water, which is a useful metric in determining cellular health.
