U of I’s College of Law Prepares to Meet Future Legal Needs of Idaho

The demand for law education in the state is growing, and the University of Idaho is Idaho’s law school. The university was looking for creative solutions to space constraints, specifically for the Boise location, when a Vandal alumnus and longtime benefactor, Jeff Stoddard, proposed a partnership as he considered purchasing the former Concordia University School of Law building at 501 Front St. The timely conversation and proposal led to a request to the State Board of Education for the university to lease the building from Stoddard and move the law school to the Front Street building. Asylum Seeker Reunited with Family from Efforts of U of I Immigration Law Clinic

This article written by Rachel Spacek appeared in the Idaho Press on Dec. 25. BOISE — Until earlier this month, a Guatemalan woman had been separated from her four children for more than three years. She spent over a year in the Northwest detention center in Tacoma, after she was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the U.S. and Mexico border. The woman, whose name is being withheld due to dangers in Guatemala, crossed the border, fleeing extreme violence in her home country to be reunited with her four children. She struggled, alone, through the immigration court system until her case was picked up by the University of Idaho immigration law clinic. Read more

Allan G. Shepard Professors Named

Kristina Running, Katie Ball and Dylan Hedden-Nicely were recently announced as this year’s Allan G. Shepard Professors. The Allan G. Shepard Endowment was established in the memory and honor of the late Chief Justice, “to enhance the mission and the reputation of the University of Idaho College of Law by providing it the means by which to attract and retain highly distinguished faculty members.” The Endowment directs the dean to “choose highly qualified persons with records of distinguished service to legal education.” Read more
