The University of Idaho requires all full-time, first year students under 21 years of age to live in organized living groups officially recognized by the university (residence halls, fraternities and sororities, women's cooperative) for one academic year.

Students who live on campus have higher GPAs, are more likely to graduate and to be more satisfied with their college experience than students who in live off campus apartments or houses.

Any students who wish to apply for an exemption to live off campus must fill-out the First-Year Residency Requirement Exemption Form with the Dean of Students Office.

The most affordable parking permit is no permit at all. Most Vandals living on campus leave their personal vehicle at home and use alternative transportation to get across campus, around town and home on breaks. By leaving your personal vehicle at home, you won’t have to purchase a parking permit, you all but eliminate the possibility of parking citations and you could save thousands of dollars in vehicle upkeep, gas and insurance. Our campus and downtown Moscow fit within a two-mile diameter circle, making our community very walkable, bike-able and boardable. SMART Transit fixed route buses are free for all users, reach most locations around Moscow and have seven stops on campus. SMART Transit buses operate Monday-Friday, 6:40 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Students living on campus with Housing and Residential life are eligible to purchase a Silver parking permit or an Economy parking permit. Parking permits go on sale online at noon the second Tuesday of July, and are then available year-round for purchase for the academic year. Students are encouraged to purchase permits early and in advance of their arrival to campus.

For all parking and transportation information, visit the Parking and Transportation Services website. Contact PTS at parking@uidaho.edu or 208-885-6424.

Room and board charges will appear on your Student Account bill, which you can access through MyUI. Find your room and board charges by choosing the “Student” tab, then “Student Accounts,” and then “Student Account Billing Statement.”

If you have financial aid, room and board charges will be deducted from your remaining financial aid after your U of I fees have been paid. The remaining balance should be paid in full on or before the first day of the applicable semester.

For your convenience, you may choose to sign up for a payment plan available through MyUI that will allow you to make monthly payments during the semester instead of paying the entire amount at the beginning.
